Reports to:
Chair of the Department of Animal Sciences
Basic Function:
Management of the Washington Cattlemen’s Association/WSU Bull Test and Sale located at the Prosser Research and Extension Center. Works closely with Department of Animal Sciences faculty in support of cattle research. Serve as a link between the Department of Animal Sciences and Extension efforts and on- and off-campus partners.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Supervise personnel involved in the feeding and care of bulls entered in the WCA/WSU Bull Test and Sale and personnel involved in other cattle research projects.
Required Qualifications:
1. MS degree in Animal Science.
2. Experience in one, or more, of the following areas: beef production, feedlot management, animal health, managed grazing, forage production, nutrition, genetics, reproduction, meats and/or marketing.
3. Must be computer literate including the use of Word, Excel, email and the internet and have data management experience.
4. Ability to safely and humanely handle large animals using low-stress techniques and to safely operate farm equipment.
5. Must be able to obtain a valid Washington drivers license.
Preferred Qualifications:
1. Ph.D. in Animal Science
2. Experience in planning and delivering educational programs to beef producers.
3. Experience writing grants, analyzing data and interpreting scientific research for various audiences.
4. Demonstrated ability in effective leadership, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, to work cooperatively and effectively.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Provide animal production, animal health, financial and communication management for the WSU/WCA Bull Test and Sale located at the Prosser Research and Extension Center. This will include data collection, analysis, and presentation of Bull test results to clients and public; an annual financial audit and leadership of associated activities among WSU, WCA, consignors and the public. Use of information technology tools to analyze and disseminate data and information.
2. Plan and develop statewide programs to advance the Washington Beef Quality Assurance initiatives.
3. Serve as a departmental link with Extension, the College of Veterinary Medicine, the Center for Sustaining Agriculture and Natural Resources, the Washington Cattlemen’s Association, the Washington Cattle Feeders Association and beef producers.
4. Develop, implement and coordinate new outreach programs and research efforts.
5. Collaborate with department research and Beef Team members to develop research proposals, seek extramural funds, publish research findings and write report summaries for diverse end users.
6. Participate in regional/national and industry conferences to maintain scholastic ability and knowledge.
7. Manage complex financial budgets associated with the Bull test and manage grants related to ongoing research.

1. Must be computer literate including the use of Word, Excel, email and the internet.
2. Knowledge of basic principles and practices of supervisory techniques.
3. Skill in planning and developing single or multiple job tasks.
4. Ability to prioritize and arrange job assignments.

3. Ability to design and follow scientific protocols.

Work Conditions:
Work environment includes outdoor temperatures and conditions, indoor conditions, interruptions, noise, dust and a variety of standing, sitting, lifting and walking activities. This position will require travel and a flexible work schedule.
Physical Requirements:
This position requires incumbent to be physically active, with the ability to stand, walk, sit, speak clearly, lift medium weights, operate computer equipment and make effective use of the telephone and the internet.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience and is accompanied by excellent fringe benefits.
