MINERAL METABOLISM IN LIVESTOCK. Low intakes and dietary imbalances of mineral elements limit productivity and health of livestock; however, excess intakes increase excretion of these nutrients. Current studies include the gene regulation of selenoprotein expression and strategies to reduce excretion of minerals and improve nutrient management in animal systems.
Specific Research Areas:
- Role of trace elements in metabolism of ruminants.
- Gene expression of metalloproteins.
- Strategies to reduce excretion of minerals by livestock.
